Residents at the home exercise choice and control over their daily life and in order to ensure choice and flexibility each resident’s care plan has been devised to take into consideration their own cultural and social requirements. Residents’ views are sought on what type of entertainment and outings they wish to have available and the activities programme is built on their preferences. Some residents prefer to spend time in their own room, it is their choice.
There are three separate social groups with two lounges for older people, one in a secure area for those with confusion and another for the physically frail with active minds. The third lounge is for younger people (aged 25 to 65) with physical disabilities. In all cases, residents can enjoy the company of others with similar needs and, if required, they can move groups as their needs develop thus ensuring the peace of mind of a home for life.
The home has as designated activities organizer who is supported by assistants and a Christian Chaplain. Together they provide a tailored programme of stimulation for each group, taking into account their particular ability levels and needs.
In the dementia unit a specific programme of activities and experiences is offered with one to one attention for example reading, talking, manicure and massage. Group activities are more popular in the main lounge to include film shows, weekly musical entertainment and an art group. Art by the residents can be seen on the walls around the home.
